Monitoring of Greek volcanic islands GREVOLCAN

The monitoring of Greek volcanic islands (network GREVOLCAN) is performed in cooperation with the Kapodistrian University of Athens. GREVOLCAN consists of two networks for gravity and GNSS monitoring in the volcanic islands of Nisyros and Thera. The networks are designed for epoch-style observations. Considering low number of original stations, we established additional stations during last 7 years according to current volcanic and seismological activity. The target is to investigate magmatic and tectonic processes inside volcanic structures that represent potential hazard for local population and property. Results will be summarized in technical reports available to local authorities. The epoch gravity observations were started in 2012 and we plan to complete them in 2022 so that the results are statistically valid. As well, the intention is to establish a permanent station for short-term continuous observations of GNSS and gravity in Nysiros.
