Monitoring network CarbonNet

The CarbonNet monitoring network is part of the CzechGeo project. Its purpose is to monitor the natural flow of carbon dioxide in the area of the Cheb Basin and the Slavkov Forest. The emerging CO2, which has deep origin documented by isotope analyses, passes through the entire layer of the Earth's crust and thus brings data on conditions along its path from depths of the first tens of kilometres. Changes in the amount of gas can thus indicate changing stress conditions in the Earth's crust related to seismic activity in the area. Data on the amount of CO2 emitted are also important for the local spa, which is based on mineral springs saturated with deep carbon dioxide.
