Network of permanent GNSS stations in Greece PPGNet

PPGNet is a network of permanent GNSS stations for monitoring tectonic and seismically active areas around the Gulf of Corinth in Greece. It is a network of six permanent GNSS stations (Global Navigation Satellite System), which is operated by the Geodetic Observatory Pecný RIGTC and the Department of Geophysics, MFF UK in close cooperation with the seismic laboratory of the University of Patras. Five stations are located north of the Gulf of Corinth, northeast of Patras. The last station is located in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The mission of the network of permanent GNSS stations in tectonically active areas such as Greece is to monitor long-term changes in position to detect mutual movements of individual parts of the earth's crust and to monitor very rapid changes in position that may be caused by earthquakes in the vicinity of the station. The first goal - monitoring of tectonic movements - is realized by means of continuous GNSS measurements and their processing into time series of coordinates, from which the relative movement of stations over a period of time can be determined. The second goal - monitoring the rapid changes of the station during an earthquake - is realized from the processing of data with a high recording intensity (10 Hz) in the period around the earthquake. The PPGNet Operations Center is operated at the Geodetic Observatory Pecný. The data are available on the GNSS data portal of the CzechGeo/EPOS project. For data in a denser recording interval or in the primary binary format (available only from some stations), contact the responsible person.
