Local seismic network WEBNET

The WEBNET local seismic network has been deployed to monitor earthquake swarm activity in West Bohemia. The seismic activity in the westernmost part of Czechia and adjacent regions in Germany differs from the typical mainshock-aftershock sequence. Local seismic activity manifests as so-called earthquake swarms, which are thousands of weak earthquakes occuring in the period of few days up to few months. Occasionally, some of these events are felt or even cause minor damage to buildings. The development of the network began after a distinctive earthquake swarm in 1985/86. The network of 24 seismic stations is operated by the Institute of Geophysics and Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics of the CAS. The stations are  placed around the main focal zone of Nový Kostel. Most of the stations are connected to the Internet and stream the measured data to be automatically processed in near-real time. The rest of the stations record measured data to SD cards which are collected and replaced manually.
